| Magnetic Resonance Imaging |
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in radiology to visualize the structure and function of the body. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane. MRI provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body than computed tomography (CT) does, making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological (cancer) imaging. 127 |
| Mainstreaming |
Mainstreaming refers to the practice of educating students with special needs in regular classes during specific time periods based on their skills. This means special education is delivered outside the regular classroom, where the student with the special need leaves the regular classroom to attend smaller, and more intensive instructional sessions. 128 |
| Maternal Rubella |
Maternal Rubella is a mild, highly contagious virus, also known as “German measles” that crosses the placenta from infected mothers and leads to major developmental defects in developing fetus. 129 |
| Melatonin |
Melatonin is a hormone produced by pineal gland, involved in regulating sleeping and waking cycles. Sometimes used for chronic insomnia. Consult your child’s physician before giving melatonin; it is not recommended for all patients with sleep problems. 130 |
| Mental Retardation |
Mental Retardation describes person with limitations in mental functioning that cause them to develop more slowly than typical child. They may take longer to learn to speak, walk, and take care of personal needs such as dressing or eating, and are likely to have trouble learning in school. May be mild or severe. 131 |

Modified Checklist of Autism in Toddlers (MCHAT) is a screening tool for identifying young children who may be referred to specialist for further evaluation and possible Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. 132 |
